How to Make Your WordPress Website Public

    Each Ball State University WordPress site is by default hidden from public view, including search engine results. This gives users the time they need to build their site. Whenever your site is ready to go public, it’s very easy to change your site visibility settings.

    Step 1: Log into your WordPress site.

    Log into your WordPress website. From the dashboard, click “Settings” in the left-hand sidebar.

    Step 2: Change the site visibility settings.

    Scroll to the bottom of the “Settings” page. Ensure the box next to “Site Visibility” is unchecked. When unchecked, your website will be visible to anyone on the internet.

    Click “Save Changes.”

    Step 3: Change the search engine visibility settings.

    In the left-hand sidebar under “Settings,” click “Reading.”

    Ensure the box next to “Search Engine Visibility” is unchecked. When unchecked, search engines are able to index your site and Google Analytics will begin to collect data on your site’s traffic.

    Click “Save Changes.”
